A spiritual and rejuvenating weekend retreat for married couples was held from 18 to 20 September at the Vinayalaya Retreat House, Andheri. Animated by Fr. Abhay Shirekar, SJ, the retreat brought together 11 couples for an engaging, interactive, and deeply reflective experience.
Rooted in Jesuit spirituality, the retreat invited couples into a progressive journey of self-discovery, spiritual connection, and marital renewal. Participants were first encouraged to rediscover themselves as individuals and deepen their personal relationship with God, recognising that what each person brings to a marriage flows from their unique identity and relationship with the Divine.
Building on this foundation, the couples then explored ways of strengthening their relationship as a couple, with particular attention to intimacy, mutual understanding, communication, and shared growth. Fr. Abhay led meaningful and practical sessions on understanding and navigating emotions, intentional parenting, and nurturing marital intimacy. Creative and artistic activities provided participants with a safe and expressive space to share their thoughts and feelings.
Each day began with physical exercises and guided meditation, helping participants to energise both body and mind. Ample time was also given for personal reflection, guided questions, and meaningful conversations between spouses.
The serene and green campus of Vinayalaya provided a peaceful setting for rest, reflection, and renewal. Simple, healthy meals, moments of relaxation, and the daily celebration of the Eucharist contributed to the overall experience of physical, emotional, and spiritual nourishment.
The retreat offered couples a sacred space to pause, listen, reflect, and renew their shared journey. They returned home with a deeper appreciation of one another, renewed love, and a greater sense of spiritual vitality for their life together.
