Talasari - Uplat

The Talasari – Uplat Mission is situated to the north of Mumbai, covering parts of Dahanu and Talasari talukas. The two talukas of Dahanu and Talasari are inhabited by tribals, predominant among whom are the Warlis.

Talasari Mission is one of the oldest and largest mission in Bombay province. It has a legacy of committed men and women, brothers, fathers, sisters and Warlis, who have spent their lives untiringly in the service of the faith and spreading God’s Kingdom.

The major work that we Jesuits here undertake is Pastoral and Education apostolate. The Mission has around twenty Mass Centers or Basic Christian Communities run by the Jesuits. Depending on the Christian population size in these Centers, Eucharist is celebrated once a week, every fortnight or a month. Present emphasis has been on community building, revival of faith through various seminars and programs, bring social justice to the poor and marginalized and accompaniment of youth. We are trying to build mature and responsible Laity.

The Jesuits run an extensive network of schools in different remote parts of Talasari with the collaboration of religious sisters and the laity. The school network includes eleven primary schools (up to std. vii) and four high schools (up to std. x) and two junior colleges. Hostel facilities for boys and girls are in five places. Overall development of the poor adivasi children is been the main focus of the educational ministry.
