THE WEST ZONE PLATFORM FOR INTEGRAL ECOLOGY

The Jesuits in India are part of the Jesuit Conference of South Asia (JCSA) of the Society of Jesus. Within India, the Provinces of the Society of Jesus are divided into 4 Zones for better networking.

We have learnt the hard way that individual institutional efforts are not sufficient nor effective and hence Jesuit Provinces are grouped into Zones for better networking and reaping the benefits of scale.

The West Zone consists of the Provinces of Bombay, Goa, Gujarat and Pune.  Jesuits involved in any type of ecology-work are known as Eco-Jesuits and within the Zone, these seek ways to network and collaborate with one another, with their lay partners, with government and with civil society groups involved in similar efforts to preserve the environment and achieve sustainable development. For better coordination, the Platform is divided into 4 Networks:

'Talasari - The Almost Forgotten'

'Talasari - The Almost Forgotten', is a film that was shot during the Rural Exposure Camp conducted by the  Jesuits of Bombay Province at Talasari in March 2024. What touched Shalom most was the generosity of spirit of the simple Warli tribals, who, despite having very little, shared selflessly and with joy.  They were full of gratitude for the Jesuit community for giving them a chance at a life of love & dignity.

Seventeen year old Shalom Mendes is a parishioner of St. Anne's Mazagaon and a product of Don Bosco International School and St Xavier's College Mumbai. She embodies the spirit of Magis and always strives to give of her best and then some, in all her endeavours. She is a keen amateur photographer and film maker and passionate about creating awareness around social issues.

The Jesuit Vocation: a call to something “more”

The call to religious life and the priesthood is a profound one, inviting young men to a life of service and dedication for the greater glory of God.

For individuals yearning for something more, or moved with a desire to live a life of purpose and meaning, the Society of Jesus offers a path worth considering. Whether as a priest or a brother, joining the Jesuits means signing up to make a difference in the world.

If you feel drawn to explore this invitation further, please reach out to a Jesuit community close to you. They can provide guidance and journey with you as you discern if this vocation is right for you.
